CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR NOMINATION FOR ELECTION TO IPA OFFICE
The IPA is seeking proposals for President Elect (with Vice President), Treasurer and the seven (7) positions of Representative in each IPA region.
The successful President-Elect will take over the Presidency in 2013.
The successful candidates for the position of Treasurer and the Representatives will serve on the Board of Representatives for the 2011 to 2013 term.
All proposals will be forwarded to the relevant committee.
For a nominee to be eligible for consideration, the relevant Nominating Committee must receive either:
1) A proposal from a Component Society, the Regional Association or any of its affiliates or
2) A proposal from 10 IPA Members.
PRESIDENT-ELECT and VICE PRESIDENT-ELECT (globally elected):
Please note that the IPA Membership has recently voted to change the IPA’s Rules so that the office of Secretary General is replaced with an office of Vice-President who is elected by the members as part of a ‘presidential team’ made up of the President and Vice-President. To read about this amendment and the results of the ballot please click here
The geographic rotation system stated in the IPA's Rules dictates that the President and Vice President of the IPA for the terms 2013 - 2015 and 2015 - 2017 must be from Europe. Prior to taking office the President and Vice President serve for two years as President-Elect and Vice President-Elect. Therefore proposals for these positions are being sought and will be forwarded to the Central Nominating Committee once appointed. The Central Nominating Committee will slate at least 2 ‘Presidential teams’ for this position.
TREASURER (globally elected):
The current Treasurer, Dr. Henk Jan Dalewijk, will have served 2 full consecutive terms of 2 years and will therefore not be eligible for re-election.
The geographic rotation system stated in the IPA's Rules dictates that the next IPA Treasurer must be elected from Latin America. Proposals for the position of Treasurer will be forwarded to the Central Nominating Committee once appointed. The Central Nominating Committee will slate at least 2 names for this position.
REPRESENTATIVES TO THE BOARD (regionally elected):
Proposals for the 21 Representative positions will be forwarded to the relevant Regional Nominating Committee. Each Regional Nominating Committee will slate at least 11 names, but no more than 14, for the 7 positions within its region. 8 of the current Representatives are eligible for re-election, but will not be slated automatically and must be proposed in the same way as other nominees.
Please note that the other 13 Representatives - Drs. Madeleine Bachner, Paul Denis, Yolanda Gampel and David A. Tuckett from Europe, Drs. Wilson Amendoeira, Plinio Montagna, Clara Uriarte and Fernando Weissmann from Latin America and Drs. Harriet I. Basseches, Fred Busch, Arthur S. Leonoff, Nadine A. Levinson and Beth J. Seelig from North America - are not eligible for re-election as they will have served 2 full consecutive terms.
ALL PROPOSALS FOR NOMINATION MUST REACH BROOMHILLS BY 31ST JULY 2010 c/o Joanne Beavis (e.mail: jo_b@ipa.org.uk or fax:+44 208 445 4729).
Any proposals received after that date will not be accepted unless specifically invited by the Nominating Committees.
Important note: Names proposed will not automatically be slated. The Nominating Committees will decide on the names that appear on the final slate according to IPA criteria. The IPA Procedural Code document 'Rules, Limits and Procedures for IPA Elections' can be found if you click here or can be sent to you on request to: ipa@ipa.org.uk).
Please note that 'Except with the Board's express waiver, a member of a Provisional Society or Study Group, who is not a member of a Component Society or the Regional Association, is not eligible to run for or hold IPA elected office.' and only IPA Members of Component Societies may stand for election to President-Elect, Vice President-Elect and Treasurer.
